Life is a journey and can be a challenging one. Ups and downs occur on continuous basis, and sometimes it seems as though we are losing control of all possessions around us, but knowing that you are in the right place at the right time at all times is essential. I've learn through life experiences that things are not always going to go the way you predicted them to. You just have to be ready to change the plan at any given moment, while knowing the path was already prearrange for you before you even arrived on this planet.

The day I took the picture you see right above this text was a day of distress for me. After making a wise decision to go to college full time to pursue my bachelors degree; I experience a sequence of life changing events that left me in a hollow place. I felt lost and confused and really unsure of what I should do about my future. I found myself further away from who I wanted to become and closer to my Father which is who led me here today. I begin to attend church three to four times a week and during a bible study of the book of Ruth, I walked in class, sat down, and before me was this magnificent cross shining in on me. I felt extremely blessed because miraculous things like this don't happen every day. At that very moment I knew I was in the right place at the right time.

After that day, my storms increased, but even then I stayed close to my Lord and savior. Through it all I learned how to let go. Let go of my worries and my stress and just let God. I learned how to be strong, strong through losing a loved one, strong with my confidence. I learned how to love myself, but most importantly I learned how to love God. Knowing that there is something, someone, some higher power, working just out of pure love for us is the reason why we should strive to be the best us we can be.

Love yourself, love who you are, love what you do, and let that be your guidance to the right moments in your life.

Looking at this picture reminds me of all the bumps and rocks that can be on the road in life. People complain over all the logs and leaves that may fall in the way while proceeding, but they never pay attention to how the water steady flows so easily through the obstacles as if they were never there. I like to call those obstacles trials and tribulations. Though the objects might cause harm to the ground beneath the water, the ground will repair, but the water must steady flow. I like to look at the water as in "the God in me." This is my faith, hope, and belief, that through all things God is by my side. Sometimes life can become challenging. We may lose a job, a loved one, Lord forbids any of this, but in life anything can happen. We must be prepared and aware that what we go through, God puts us through, to build us, and not to break us. Success is defined as: The accomplishment of one's goals. To me that states that each trial accomplished, is a goal accomplished, and a blessing on the way because you kept the water flowing. When I look at life from this path, this picture, this angle, I start to realize that its not the trials and tribulations or obstacles we must focus on, but the faith that God knows what's best for us... That faith that keeps the water flowing down the stream while we are on our pathway to success.

I remember when I was young I wanted to be a writer. I was just six years old. The principle had announced on the intercom that a poetry contest will take place for all the 1st graders at the school. I didn't express it much, but I wanted to win that contest bad. My heart raced as I thought of how exciting it would be to win. None of the student's talked about the competition. None of the students really seemed interested, but my heart pounded for the trophy. I had never won anything in my life, but this I wanted to win more than everything. I worked on my poem for hours, days even, and when it was time to turn in our poetic works; I can say I was one of the first in line to proudly hand my paper to the teacher. My smile was brighter than the rubies on Dorothy's shoes that day, and I knew in my heart I would be known as a champion . Each day I came to class anxious to see if the principle was going to announce the winner. My heart pounded with each day that passed; as if no one told me it would be announced at the end of the week. When Friday came my heart dropped, and I listened quietly as the principle announced someone else's name, and though I didn't win that day; I learned something that stuck with me always... I love poetry and that's what motivates me still til this day. Just don't stop trying. When you stop trying, that's when you don't succeed. Life will try it's best to interfere with what is in store for you. Persevere and never give up. The only person stopping you is you!

1st Poem (Merry-Go-Round)

As I watch the merry-go-round go round and round

I thought of the days we met in town

I laughed, you giggled, we walked all around

Until we got tired and fell on the ground.
